Review: Codename: Icarus

Martin Smith is lazy. Lazy and thick. At least, that's the opinion of his teachers. They'd think even worse of him if they knew he broke into the sixth form computer room ever night. But they'd be surprised if they knew what he was doing. Martin is rewriting physics textbooks - they're out of date and he knows better. Because Martin is a child prodigy, even if no one at his school realises it, and he's lazy because school work is far beneath him he despises it and them. Unfortunately for Martin, someone has found out what he's been up to in his spare time - the headmaster of a school for gifted children. That school is Falconleigh and it's run by the Icarus Foundation. And they'd very much like him to join.

Review: Redcap (season 2)

Forget Morse. Forget Regan. John Thaw's best performance as a detective was as Sergeant John Mann in 'Redcap'. But unlike Thaw's more famous roles, Mann wasn't a police detective: he was a member of the red-bereted Royal Military Police's Special Investigation Branch - the CID of the army.

Review: The Adventurer

Where did it all start to go wrong for ITC? The long-standing producer of ITV action series during the 60s, ITC’s honour roll of classic programmes is long and varied, taking in shows such as The Champions, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), The Saint and Danger Man. But by the early 70s, ITC started to run out of steam and if there’s one show that demonstrates the creative shortfall the company was facing, it is The Adventurer.

Review: The Sandbaggers (Series 2)

There’s much debate in connoisseurs’ circles about which of the various contenders is the best British spy show. It’s relatively easy to dismiss glossy and shallow shows like Spooks and older fare like The Cold Warrior. Serials such as Smiley’s People and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy put in considerable competition, although may be too lacking in action for some. Most arguments eventually narrow down to two shows: Callan and The Sandbaggers.

Review: The Champions, The Complete Series

They don't make them like The Champions any more. A classic ITC show from the 60s, it featured three agents of the international 'Nemesis' organisation, travelling around the world fighting dastardly evil-doers.

What lifted The Champions out of the ordinary and made it just so fun to watch was its premise.
