Updated Italian flashcards for week 1

I've updated the flashcards for Teach Yourself Instant Italian, week one: I hadn't included the flashcard sentences in the deck. Whoops.

This shows you how far I've got since the start of the year. In part, the problem is because I don't have a deadline. The other problem is it's just so close to Spanish. I'm finding it really hard to keep the two different sets of words apart in my mind: is it siempre or sempre in Italian? That's the kind of problem I'm having. Maybe I'll switch over to Welsh, just to try a language that's really different to Spanish.

I finally got my lazy arse into gear and uploaded week one of the Teach Yourself Instant Italian Teach Yourself Instant Italian flashcards to the site. Grab them when you're ready.

More Spanish and Greek flash cards

I've put up week six of my set of Spanish flashcards, designed to accompany Instant Spanish, over on my iFlash page. I've also added combined versions of both the Greek decks and the Spanish decks, so you can revise all the words in one go once you've completed a book. Enjoy!

PS Learn rudimentary Spanish in six weeks? More like six months in my case. You know why? Journalist with something to do but no deadline: that's why.

I've finally posted week 5 of my Instant Spanish flashcards to my iFlash page.

Does “Instant Spanish” actually work?

As regular readers may know, I'm working my way slowly through Teach Yourself Instant Spanish. I'm on week five now (flash cards will be going up on the site soon, once they've had a thorough testing) so that's only a week to go and then some revision to consolidate.

The big question is: does it work? Is this all for nothing? Now, I had good results with Teach Yourself Instant Greek, so I was willing to assume the same of Instant Spanish. And I've been having relatively good results with the occasional bits of Spanish I've heard on the tele: I even managed to cope without the subtitles during Lost's Ana-Lucia flashback last week.

So I decided to do a written test today and I was pleasantly surprised.

More Spanish flash cards

I've added flashcards for Week 4 of Instant Spanish to the iFlash page. I am moving faster than that, honest; I just want to make sure that there aren't any typos, before I upload them.

Greek flash cards + week three of Spanish

I've added the complete set of flash cards for Instant Greek to the flash cards page – I figured I was going to need to revise my Greek, since it's all fading into the mists of time at the moment.

I've also added flash cards for week three of Instant Spanish.

Whoops. A better way of doing flash cards

Just read a handy article over at MacWorld on iFlash. It made me realise that I could have made my – and everyone else's – lives easier by using categories in my iFlash decks.

So I've merged all the separate week one and week two cards together into two big decks and posted them over on the iFlash page.
