RSS is actually quite good

I remember having a conversation with the then-editor of iCreate, Paul Newman, when OS X 10.4 came out. We both agreed that RSS was pretty pointless and the RSS reader built into Safari 2.0 would only appeal to geeks.

Well, OS X 10.4 came out and it wasn't long before I'd converted at least half my bookmarks to their RSS feed equivalents - you can tell I'm a news junkie. I'm so much a convert that I've added feeds to my own site plus two others, it's so easy to do and so useful.

If you haven't tried it, you should. It's a neat way of seeing whether a site has new content, without having to go there. And done properly, you can sort and search through news articles at ease, something you can't do on a web site, obviously. To find out more, you can read the wiki article on it.

I have to admit I still wouldn't be keen on it if I were using Firefox. I find the live bookmarking in Firefox to be considerably inferior to Safari's full screen article browser.

So, for once, no sniping at Apple from me: well done guys! Excellent RSS implementation.
