Intel wants computer manufacturers to start making their machines more attractive, according to The Inquirer. Apparently, they're just noticing that Apple does quite well from making nice looking computers. Well done, Intel.
But is this the first sign of Apple influencing Intel rather than vice versa? Who knows how powerful Steve Jobs' reality distortion field really is? Certainly, it couldn't hurt the likes of Dell to make their machines ever so slightly more attractive than a car battery. But I fear they just don't know how. Most of their machines are based around using off-the-shelf parts. Start asking them to design things as well and you end up with the likes of Packard Bell's last iMac knock-off, the iXtreme: even with a template to rip off, they still screwed up.
It's going to take more than a plea from Intel to make most PC manufacturers come to their senses. It's going to take a lot more for them to learn how to copy Apple.
