Useful Mac blogging tools

I mentioned not so long ago that I'd moved my blog to run on MovableType. One of the reasons I gave was the third-party tools available. Two I have in mind are Ecto and Photon.

I'm using Ecto right now. It's an excellent tool for offline blogging, complete with spellchecker, smart quote converter, technorati tags and the usual tools. But it also lets you attach files to your posts so that you can embed and upload images, movies, etc; you can administer your blog with it, as well.

But top features are its integration with iPhoto so you can pull photos straight out of your library and its Amazon link maker, which takes the drudgery out of creating Amazon links, which right now is a very long process. I thoroughly recommend it.

Photon is a handy tool for exporting from iPhoto directly to your blog. Select Export from the Share menu and you'll find an extra tab for exporting to your blog. There are options for where the photos should appear, thumbnails and more. Best of all, it's free.
