Virgin Mobile GPRS access from a Palm OS device
Virgin Mobile user? Own a Palm Pilot with Bluetooth? Want to access the Internet on your Palm OS device? Annoyed by this?
Don't worry. There is a way to get everything working.
First, you'll need to have installed the latest version of the Phone Link app from Palm. You'll also need to have a working GPRS or 3G connection on your phone.
Next, set up the phone connection using Phone Link.
Once you're done, you'll end up with a phone connection like this.
Yes, my phone is called Plobby plone. Don't ask.
Now run Phone Link's network set up utility again
Once you click Next you'll get the “download more carriers” message. Choose instead to set up a dial-up networking connection. This is the important bit.
For the phone number, enter “*99***1#”; for the user name, enter “user”; for the password, enter anything, although a space works nicely. The 1 at the end of the phone number corresponds to your default GPRS access point. If you have more than one, change the number accordingly.
You'll end up with this dial-up connection.
This will work with most phones. However, some phones, such as the Nokia 6630, will still need DNS server entries. Click on “Details?¢‚Ǩ¬¶” and change the settings as follows:
The DNS servers are 149.254.192.126 and 149.254.201.126
After that, you should be fine.

I've tried above but can't get it to work. Do I need a script. I'm using a Nokia 6300 with a Palm TX. The Nokia connects to the net and sends/rec email OK. I had been getting messages on the Palm saying I needed to subscribe to a packet data service which I couldn't understand as GPRS was already working. Any help appreciated.

Might be the driver that's a problem. Try experimenting with the phone driver you've picked. But often you need the exact one for your phone, or else it doesn't work.
