The observant will also notice that one rather special application has now disappeared from the Photoshop roster: ImageReady. This is soon to be superseded by an acquisition from Macromedia, FireWorks, as well as by existing functions in Photoshop. But this loss will be annoyance to anyone with existing ImageReady workflows who will need to create equivalents in Photoshop or that need functions that don’t yet have a Photoshop equivalent.

Nevertheless, even with the apparent – and hopefully soon-to-be-fixed slowdowns – in Photoshop CS3, together with its companion applications, it’s a worthwhile upgrade to CS2. Whether you have a Power Mac or an Intel Mac, if you depend on Photoshop, CS3 is an upgrade you’d need a good reason not to invest in.
