You’ve passed the exams, your accommodation is sorted. Now you just need the kit to do your course work!
Congratulations! You’ve made it: you’re off to college. All that hard work has paid off and now… you’re ready for some more hard work. Oh, and hopefully some fun as well.
In this day and age, having a computer at college is a must, particularly if you’re going to be studying design or, surprise, surprise, computing. But unless you fancy queuing up to use a library computer whenever you want to write an essay or send an email, you’ll probably want your own computer, no matter what course you’re doing.
Since no one going to college is going to have an extravagant budget, our particular university challenge has been to show you what you can do as cheaply or for free wherever possible. Over the next few pages, we’re going to show you the must-haves – as well as some nice-to-haves - for university life, ranging from a Mac through iPod speakers and software you might need for your course. We’ll also look at some of the Internet services available that can help you organise your new working life more effectively – as well as FaceBook, which should also help with your social life. And we’ve been watching the pounds so you don’t have to.
